When running a team, you should continually ask yourself if your actions help or hurt your team’s ability to execute tasks successfully. It can be hard to see or even admit if you are causing problems for your teammates. Bryant Consultants knows that there are five key ways you can destroy your team’s ability to function well.

The Importance of Your Team

It’s important to note that any short or long-term goals your business wishes to reach can only be obtained with a well-functioning staff. If your staff isn’t functioning at its full potential, then it can hinder productivity, timeliness, clientele results, and the state of your business in general. That’s why recognizing destructive behavior is the first step in helping your staff and business. Business owners must be able to identify their own weaknesses and surround themselves with team members capable of compensating for those weaknesses. To learn more about the five behaviors that could be ruining your team, read on.

How A Team Can Suffer

  1. Distrust: If your staff can’t trust you, then nothing will work optimally in your business. You have to have trust. Not just from one team member, but from everyone as a unit. Vulnerable employers who express honesty foster staff members that also are honest and open.
  2. Clash Consternation: Are you afraid of conflicts? Unfortunately, you can’t afford to be. You’ve got to embrace any struggles. In the blink of an eye, your team will have created a false utopia if everyone is afraid of conflict. This phase of artificial harmony is toxic to your office culture and your staff’s mental health.
  3. Flaky: If you show signs of flaky or flighty behaviors, no employee of yours can commit to your goals. You must be 100% committed to your business and its mission.
  4. Blameless: Ducking the responsibility, being unaccountable, and generally behaving irresponsibly is negative for everyone involved. It means that your peers will want to remain equally blame-free when it comes to tasks and responsibilities. Productivity from your team demands that you’re culpable for your actions.
  5. Result Responses: Good or bad, it rains on everyone. Your work is no different. You have to acknowledge whether you lost or won every day. What was accomplished (or not accomplished) has to be shown recognition. What was completed or left incomplete is the only thing that really matters.

How Do You Adjust

How can you recognize if you’re doing these destructive behaviors? If you are, how do you monitor them because you didn’t think they were destructive? Key Performance Indicators, otherwise known as KPIs, are the single best way to see if your team has been negatively affected. Any business owner can use qualitative and quantitative methods of tracking key performance indicators. This helps monitor your team’s ability to execute strategies.

Some ways to track your KPI are:

  • Number of Customers Retained
  • Percentage of Market Share
  • Net Promoter Score
  • Productivity/Resolution Time

How Do I Stay Ahead?

Bryant Consultants has three easy questions you can ask yourself to see how well you execute your practice’s strategy:

  • Are you setting regular and reasonable goals?
  • Are you obtaining these goals?
  • Have you been reporting and tracking your KPI’s?
  • How are you responding to those KPI results you monitor?
